This show was possibly one of the best episodic series in the history of television. It was definitly the best science-fiction show. If you keep an open mind and not say, "it's just another...[insert whatever here]", and actually give the show a chance, you just might be surprised.
To expound just a bit...
There have been many great television shows since the inception of t.v.. Babylon 5 was the first to do what is called a 'story arc'. The creator of Babylon 5, JMS, sat down and mapped out what was going to happen over the 5 season span of the series. Rather than having "stand alone" episodes thaat could be viewed in any order, like most television series, the 5 years of Babylon 5 was more of a story, with a distinct beginning, rise in action, a climax of that action, and an epilogue. If one word is used to describe Babylon 5, epic would be that word.
I sat down and watched the final episode again today. Again I was moved. In order to fully appreciate "Sleeping in Light", you really should watch the first 4 seasons.
Remember that under the special effects, beyond the 'alien' races and the "sci-fi"-ness if the show, lies a story that relates to us all. When all is said and done, Ivonova said it best...
"Babylon 5 was the last of the Babylon stations. There would never be another. It changed the future, and it changed us. It taught us that we had to create the future, or others will do it for us.
"It showed us that we have to care for each other, because if we don't, who will?
"And that strength sometimes comes from the most unlikely of places.
"Mostly, though, I think it gave us hope that there can always be new beginnings, even for people like us.
"As for Delenn, every morning for as long as she lived, Delenn got up before dawn and watched the sun come up..."
