Cootes Paradise (Princess Point) - May '04
***May 7, 2004***
A good friend got me in a routine--go canoeing on my birthday!
To continue the tradition, I took a vacation day fromwork, threw the canoe on the truck, and went, well, canoeing! |
| Never actually going on an extended trip by myself in a canoe before, I decided to stick close to home and make it more of a day trip. |

Going under the 403 in Hamilton, Ontario |
Looking towards downtown Hamilton
And there's the Skyway Bridge way off in the far distance |
A white tree amongst the greenery
Sometimes you have to take a close look at something insignificant. I found this rock to be particularly worth a pic! |
| The York Blvd bridge from the Hamilton Harbour side
Ahh, Steeltown again. From this vantage point, it doesn't look too bad ;) |
There's a loon somewhere in this picture. I know 'casue that's why I took it. Can't see it now, though
A little bridge |
Always liked the overhanging tree.
Barely see 'em, but there are turtles sunning themselves on that old partially submerged wooden spool |
Once more, I give you Hamilton (aren't you just thrilled...)
Didn't want to disturb the nesting habits of these swans, so I didn't get too close |
| Bridges |
Again, bridges. Well, it was exciting when I was there! Honest! |
Looking towards Dundas
The busy thoroughfare known as the 403 |
The spire of the Catholic Church on King Street
Another overhanging tree |
| Cliff swallows nesting in, well, the cliff
Just have to love nature, don't ya? |
These turtles allowed me to get close for the picture |
Well, at the end of the day I realized that I'm no Bill Mason (actually, I knew that before going in, but that's neither here nor there).
It was a great day and a great way to spend my birthday. It was the longest solo paddle I've ever done. Maybe I'll do a weekend trip at some point in the future.
The canoe may be old and faded, but still handles remarkably well in the water.
The official camera for 'Dave's Birthday Canoeing Adventure' is (wait for it) none other than the Kodak DC120 Digital Science camera. Picture 10853 was taken on this very canoe trip. |
