So a friend of mine calls me up and suggested that we go on a weekend canoe trip for my birthday. |
| I thought that this was a great idea! With camera in tow, we set out on Friday night. |

Graceful, soaring hawks. We went to Long Lake, which is above Peterborough--approximately 2 hours east-north-east of Toronto. |

Here's me sprawled out on a rock after a hard day of paddling. 'K, wasn't so hard but the body ain't what it used to be. It was fun. See how (un)loaded the canoe was. This was right before the 1500 meter portage. That was a little rough but we took turns carrying the canoe. |

Our view from our campsite for Saturday. Quartz crystals in the rock. |

More pictures from around our campsite | |

Our friendly neighbour, a snake. Mmmmmmm, apple crisp (honest, it was good!). I like purple much better than orange! |

Hanging up the damp clothes. Note the food bag is hung up well out of the reach of small woodland furry creatures (who were in abundance). The little campfire smouldering out. |

I bask in the sun with a bugnet keeping those pesky blackflies away. The snake, on the other hand, requires no such apparatus. Industrious beavers start another dam. |

One of many small tributaries to the lakes and streams. Here's me doing a 'lift over'--Put a few scratches on the canoe this weekend. |

Rock statues! Wonder who made this one? Another great view from the canoe. |
 |
| The weekend was great! It rained a bit Friday night but the rest of the weekend was clear and sunny. I realized how much I missed these types of trips. The Long Lake loop is a nice trip. The portages were (mostly) well marked as were the campsites. We didn't have to push ourselves to complete the trip, though we did take a shortcut on Sunday. Hopefully, next time I'll go out longer than just the weekend. |
